Learn how to perform database administration using IBM DB2 UDB in a partitioned environment on UNIX. These tasks include installing DB2 UDB in a partitioned environment, creating and populating databases, designing a database for parallel use, examining data for parallel queries, and using DB2 UDB utilities.

Note: Actual installation of DB2 UDB is not performed in this workshop. A preinstalled system is used to exercise various administrative functions.

who can benefit

This is an intermediate course for database administrators, application developers, and consultants who plan, implement, or maintain DB2 UDB partitioned databases. This course is appropriate for students requiring knowledge of DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) in a Data Partitioning Feature (DPF) environment.

prerequisites

You should complete:

AIX 5L Basics (AU130)
DB2 SQL Workshop (CF120)
or be able to:
Use basic AIX functions such as utilities, file permissions, hierarchical file system, commands, and the visual editor (vi) editor
State the functions of the SQL and be able to construct Data Definition Language (DDL), Data Manipulation Language (DML), and authorization statements
Discuss basic relational concepts and objects such as tables, indexes, views, and joins

skills gained

Describe the steps to install and customize DB2 UDB in a partitioned environment
Use Graphical User Interface (GUI) tools to administer the database
Create objects and load data on DB2 UDB
