Skill level: Advanced

Learn to plan and implement recovery procedures for a DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390, Version 7 data sharing installation. Expand all local recovery and disaster recovery procedures to support a DB2 data sharing environment. Get a DB2 data sharing configuration overview. Check and prepare your data sharing environment. Examine automatic restart of members, test data sharing functions and utilities, retain locks, group restarts, rebuilding Shared Communications Area (SCA), Coupling Facility DB2 Lock Structure (LOCK1), and group buffer pool structures, automatic recovery of page sets, resolving Logical Page List (LPL) conditions, and recovery using archive log commands.

who can benefit

This is an advanced course for senior system administrators, senior database administrators, and senior technical system professional individuals, who plan, implement, recover, and maintain DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390.

prerequisites

You should complete:

DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 System Administration (CF850)
DB2 UDB for OS/390 System/Disaster Recovery Workshop (CF910)
DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 Data Sharing Implementation (CF311) OR
DB2 UDB for OS/390 Data Sharing Implementation Workshop (CF350)
OR have working knowledge of OS/390 sysplex, DB2 data sharing, and DB2 recovery

skills gained

Implement sysplex component recovery procedures
Use database recovery procedures
Implement subsystem recovery procedures
Use coupling facility recovery procedures
Implement disaster recovery procedures

course materials

The course materials cover DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 Data Sharing with topics pertaining to multiple DB2 versions from DB2 Version 4, 5, 6, and 7.

hands-on labs

Ten labs are included and expanded to twenty different types of recovery/restarts to address DB2 recovery of a DB2 data sharing subsystem environment. All aspects of coupling facility failures of DB2 structures are recovered and experienced in this complex Parallel Sysplex environment. A DB2 data sharing environment has already been established and is ready for you to use.

Lab teams of two or three people perform the recovery/restart steps of data sharing on their own parallel sysplex environment.
