This is a basic course for i5 and iSeries system operators; system administrators, and other individuals who manage the i5 and iSeries server. It is for individuals whose duties include the management of messages, output, jobs, configuration, objects in the Integrated File System (IFS), security and backup; while using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) Navigator interface.

prerequisites

You should be able to:

	Perform operator functions on the iSeries servers, such as respond to messages and manage printed output
	Describe the concepts of iSeries work management
	Use work management commands, including work with system status, work with active jobs, and work with disk status
	Utilize iSeries security, system values, print queues, general message handling, Program Temporary Fixes (PTF) management, and save and restore capabilities
	Describe basic components of TCP/IP architecture
	Use Windows
	You should know how to use TCP/IP functions, but not be an experts in setting up sophisticated TCP/IP-based functions such as packet filtering, Domain Name Services (DNS), or Virtual Private Network (VPN).

	Use the features of the file system, such as managing objects and assign permission
	Use basic management (not configuration) functions of the network component, including managing commonly used TCP/IP (NetServer and Management Central) and iSeries access (database) servers and TCP/IP connection verification utilities
	Explain the capabilities provided by the iSeries Navigator Tasks on the Web interface
