Get rigorous training in Server Consolidation (SCON) methodology, tools, and the development of compelling server consolidation proposals to win SCON business. Explore the details of SCON methodology, tools, and best practices. The methodology includes the collection of data from the server environment, evaluation of the data, SCON island analysis, selection of SCON solution strategies to fit the environment, SCON solution development, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis. Complete workshops on data collection (Consolidation Data Collection and Analysis Tool (CDAT)) and TCO. IBM Business Partners take the CDAT from the course and are eligible to use it in server consolidation opportunities for IBM xSeries hardware for up to 12 months.

You should identify a potential server consolidation customer and bring information about the customer to use as a case study in the lab session. The type of information on the customer server environment should include the number of servers, their primary function, and system resource utilization data. Where complete information is not available, assumptions are made during the lab session. You should try your best to come to the course with the data to gain the most benefit from the class.

Note: You should bring your own laptop to use in class exercises. The CDAT tool does NOT support MS VISTA! The preferred operating system is MS X.
